Who I am and What I know

(( Follow my blog with Bloglovin ))

Who I am:

I am D’Ana Joi. Only child. Daydreamer. Swiss-army-knife of artistic attributes. In fact, I’ve often felt frustrated by my various interests and inability to hone in on any one part of my creative-mash-up of a brain. With so many different veins of interest pulsing through me, being told I need to focus on only one has a paralyzing effect on me. Do I focus on my music? My passion for cooking? My love of all things handmade? Gardening? Poetry? Then, an epiphany:  What if I could accept my many interests and embrace those things that I know how to do well, without forcing myself to choose any one thing (and neglecting the rest)…? Discovering the answer to this question has helped me to dive deep into the well of my own being. The truth is, who I am is ever-evolving, as is the discovery of more and more passion for the things that make everyday life a little more magical.

What I know:

Does anyone ever actually have it all figured out? If so, please email me so I can pick your brain. There are a few things I can say I know with confidence: I know how to maximize a grocery list and plan a menu for the week. I know how to play the ukulele. I know how to roast a whole chicken like a pro, and how to be a part-time vegan and love it. I know how to make greeting cards for any occasion. I also know how to type, and how to use the internet, so I have decided that it’s time to put all this knowledge in one place and share my “know how’s” with you. There are many things I have not yet mastered (like how to stick to a work-out schedule), and you won’t find me doing any pretending on topics that I’m not sure of. Here, on Joi-Knows-How.com each post will be presented in a practical way, to inspire that do-try-this-at-home vibe, and the topics will vary to mirror my many creative outlets. After all, what is the point of life if we don’t share our knowledge with others? Now that… I don’t know.

Reading this was perfect timing as I just began my weekly workout routine for the 28th time this year (28th week of the year) Like you I’ve been told to focus on one thing, master that then go to the next. It’s never happened and I’m 52. So I’m interested in seeing how this plays out for you and who knows, maybe I’ll learn a few things too. How do I subscribe?

Hi Dawn. Perhaps resolving not to choose just one thing will create the freedom you need to truly realize some of your goals. In fact, there is a great book called: Refuse to Choose! by Barbara Sher that you may find useful. It has been great for me.

    Hi D’Ana,
When reading about you, I thought “How inspiring!” I believe a lot of people run into the dilemma of wondering which career or hobby to choose first not realizing that selecting all can be an option. It’s just the time management of all at one time that comes to mind, but when you love doing something or all things that part can be a bit challenging but also exciting. Great site.

Hi Sharon. Thank you so much for taking the time to read. You’re absolutely right about time management. It’s necessary to use my planner and map things out, but it’s worth it. When I make time to nurture all of my gifts, I feel more alive! Thanks again.

Yes! Honor all of your gifts and share them with the world when you’re ready. The truth is, we don’t just have to choose ONE thing. The most important choice is to choose what makes you HAPPY and brings you JOY!

      hugs. xo
