When I started my blog last summer, I had no intention of selling products or opening my own online shop. I simply wanted a space to express my creativity and my share my thoughts. And yet, here I am, celebrating the grand opening of the Joi Knows How Etsy Shop. The more I think about it, the more I realize it’s not so far-fetched that I would be selling my photography, customized journaling kits, and more, via Etsy.
I started Joi-Knows-How.com as a safe space to express all the parts of my creativity. In the past, I struggled with feeling like I needed to choose only one thing to focus on in order to be successful. Starting my blog gave me the opportunity to embrace all of my gifts and share them with the world in one place. So I suppose in many ways it’s natural that I would expand this sharing of gifts into products and artwork that can live in the world in a more tangible way.
I’m so thankful to be able to express myself in more ways than I imagined when I started my blog. Each product in my shop has a story. Let’s talk a little bit about what you can expect from the Joi Knows How Shop and how my blog inspired me along the way.
When I was putting together my blog post, How to Start a Crystal Collection I became enamored with the process of photographing crystals. I learned which settings worked best on my camera, utilized natural light and played with various compositions of crystals. I spent hours arranging my personal crystal collection to be photographed. It was so much fun!
Once I published the blog post, I had the thought that those images would be so beautiful printed and framed. So, I ordered a few prints. When they arrived, it was as if the heavens had opened up! The photos from my blog post looked exquisite as photography prints!
You can buy this print here.
Then it occurred to me that if I enjoyed these crystal compositions as artwork, someone else might too. So, I did a little test run on Instagram and took pre-orders for my first set of art prints. I wasn’t sure what to expect and to my delight the response was amazing! It became clear to me that I was not the only one who saw crystal photography as works of art. I began to think of ways to share my work with more people and now I’m offering these photography prints through my Etsy shop.
In addition to the crystal art prints, when my Etsy launched I premiered a new botanical print series based on my love of plants. I’m so honored to be able to share my experiences through photography that has become artwork in homes, offices, and studios alike. Be sure to visit my shop and choose a piece of artwork for your space!
I have been journaling since I was 9 years old. Being an only child, often times my journal was the only company I had. During quiet hours alone, I used journaling to dive deep into the well of my own mind. I expressed my thoughts, fears, and hopes, through writing.
As I grew older, I learned many more benefits of journaling. Such as, writing affirmations in the morning or making a list of the best moments of my day in the evening. In fact, my blog post, How to Increase Your Productivity Overnight is all about a daily journaling exercise. I know how beneficial writing can be as a form of self-discovery and self-care.
Seeing as I value journaling so greatly, I’d always fantasized about designing my own. After I got my photography prints underway, I started to envision some of the photographs as covers to journals. I placed an order to see what they would look like. When my first journal arrived, I knew right away this was another product I could offer.
Designing the journal itself was a wonderful feeling, but the more I thought about this new product, the more I realized that I wanted to offer more than just a book to write in. I wanted to make the journals feel more personal and valuable. I didn’t want to offer only a journal, but also ideas for how to express yourself within the pages. So with the help of my graphic design expert, Jenell, I created an insert with journaling suggestions to keep my customers inspired. I then had custom pencils made that are each engraved with one of my favorite affirmations: Share Your Gifts. The journaling kits were starting to feel more personal.
Finally, I decided that for each journaling kit, I would create a handwritten affirmation card for more inspiration. No two affirmation cards are the same. I ask my intuition to guide me whenever I create a new one. To top it off, each kit comes with a small pocket stone as a token of my appreciation. All of these personal touches contribute to making these journaling kits a product that I am extremely proud of.
These initial products are the birth of my Etsy shop, but there is much more to come. I will be creating greeting cards, affirmation card decks, apparel, crystal cleansing kits and more. I am also in the process of developing relationships with crystal merchants so that I can begin to sell crystals directly from my Etsy shop. Imagine what a dream come true that will be! I have so many ideas, and as the premise of my blog has always been, I intend to embrace them all and share my gifts. That’s what makes everyday life so meaningful and that’s why I began this journey in the first place. Thank you so much for your support as the Joi Knows How blog, shop, and brand continues to grow. What a difference a year can make!
