Welcome to Cancer Season! The fourth season of the astrological year! (And subsequently, the 4th sign in the Zodiac.)
Before we dive into the Cancerian feels, here are a few fast facts about Cancer:
Dates: June 20 – July 22
Planet: The Moon
Mantra: I Feel
Creative Specialty: Interior Design
As a water sign, Cancer is highly connected to emotion and intuition. I mean, there’s a reason why all of the astrology memes claim Cancers do nothing but cry all day.
While just about every Cancer looks at those memes with disdain, they also know that the tears can easily fall if they let that crab shell soften.
Being ruled by the Moon, it’s easy to begin to understand why Cancer is so emotional. Even when compared to the other water signs, Scorpio, and Pisces. The Moon has distinct phases that cause constant change.
Like the Moon, a Cancer will go through daily phases that are emotionally charged.
The emotion isn’t all bad or misplaced. Cancer is often described at the Mother of the Zodiac due to the combination of emotion, intuition, and Cardinal leadership.
Cardinal signs are leaders and kickstarters and a Cancer’s method of leadership is through genuine care, much like how a Mother might lead a household.
The sign of Cancer has a gift for making people feel seen, heard, recognized, and valued. They lead by getting to know people, building real relationships, and through that deep understanding, they know how to uplift people.
But of course, being so emotional and sensitive isn’t always easy or valued. This is where the Crab symbol comes in.
The Crab is a ridiculously accurate metaphor to describe Cancer! Like a crab shell, the exterior of a Cancer is usually very tough, which doesn’t allow them to give much of their true feelings away. Depending on the rest of a Cancer’s chart, their exterior can be light and fun, heavy and melodramatic, or just about anything in between.
Another way the Crab symbol signifies a Cancer is in the way a crab travels: side to side. This is often how a Cancer goes through life. Very rarely will a Cancer take an overtly linear path.
It will look like a bunch of side-steps from one random stone to another until finally, they get to their ultimate destination.
During the Cancer season, it’s a great time for us to flex our caring muscles. With emotions heightened, it would do us well to take a more caring approach to our interactions. If someone you know is in an extreme feeling state, take a pause before you react, and see if you can do something to help alleviate the issue. Or at least just try to bring a smile to their face, even for the briefest moment.
Challenge yourself to lead with your heart. It takes a lot of guts to show people that you care. But if you approach it without any attachment to an outcome, you’re just acting from the goodness of your heart, that goes a long way with the right people.
However, absolutely do not forget about yourself! Take time to care for yourself and really give yourself the self-care that you’ve been missing.
One thing that Cancer is really great at is nourishing itself when it recognizes there’s a need. We all deserve a little Cancerian pampering!
On June 21st, we will have an Annular Solar Eclipse at 1:41 AM CST at 0 degrees Cancer.
(Only pay attention to the degree if you feel called to. It’s just a way to get more precise with your understanding of astrology and your personal chart. If you have the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, your Ascendant, or your Midheaven anywhere from 0 to 2 degrees of Cancer, you might feel this New Moon more strongly than others. Also, if you have any of these planets between 0 and 2 degrees of Capricorn, Libra, or Aries, you could feel the New Moon energy intensely, as well.)
Since this is an Eclipse, it’s actually not a great time to set a goal or an intention. However, it would be worthwhile to explore the Cancerian energy. My suggestion is to explore these journal prompts AFTER the New Moon. Let yourself flow and be impacted by the New Moon rather than trying to direct it. Trying to direct the energy of an eclipse will not pan out to anything productive.
2. What do you care about the most in the world? Why?
3. Have you shown yourself the same level of care you direct towards others? Why? How can you begin to show yourself more love and appreciation?
What is your relationship with your emotions? Do you like them? Hate them? Suppress them? Let them rule you?
Dig deep into the reasoning behind your answers and determine if anything needs to change about the way you treat your emotions. (Change doesn’t have to mean doing the opposite of what you’re doing.)
Again, this isn’t really a time to set goals but it is a great time to check in with where you are since the last Cancer New Moon, which was also an eclipse.
Take a moment to check in with where you were around July 2nd, 2019. How were your emotions? How were your relationships? What were you working towards during that time? Have those goals been realized yet?
On July 4th, we will have a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn at 11:44 PM CST at 13 degrees of Capricorn.
(Only pay attention to the degree if you feel called to. It’s just a way to get more precise with your understanding of astrology and your personal chart. If you have the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, your Ascendant, or your Midheaven anywhere from 11 to 15 degrees of Capricorn or Cancer, you might feel this Full Moon more strongly than others. Also, if you have any of these planets between 11 and 15 degrees of Libra or Aries, you could feel the Full Moon energy intensely, as well.)
Again, with this being an Eclipse, it’s not going to function like a typical Full Moon. It may feel a little chaotic and impulsive. Let yourself feel the energy of the Moon, with little expectation.
The Full Moon in Capricorn will challenge you to recognize the differences between your private life and your public life. It’s a time to recognize whether or not those two areas of your life are balanced or if one is weighted more than the other.
Check-in with yourself on where you’ve been since the last Capricorn Full Moon, which was on July 16th, 2019. What were you working on career-wise? Has that come to fruition, or have things changed since then?
One of the most creative days of Cancer Season is July 1st, 2020.
The Cancer Sun will connect harmoniously to Uranus in Taurus. The Uranus energy brings that creativity, and out of the box thinking. With it connecting to the Sun, you might find that your creative energy might be directed more toward yourself and your identity. There is a tender, sensual, and supportive feel to this day.
Another creative day is July 17th (in the morning).
The Gemini Moon will be touching Venus. This is such a good time to focus on creative, but factual writing. It’s a great time for an exploration of ideas and really dissecting how those ideas make you feel. You could even use that to begin to manifest a creation you’ve been thinking about.
With Cancer season being about nurturing and taking care of things, I wrote little notes letting each sign know which area of your life you should focus that care towards. Find your Sun sign, Rising sign, and even your Moon sign for the full effect.
Whatever your note(s) says, I want you to take full stock of that area of your life.
Is that area healthy right now?
Have you been giving it the attention it needs?
Or on the flip side, have you been overworking that area?
With Mercury Retrograde in this area from June 17th to July 12th, it is even more imperative that you give it the nurturing it needs.
Give yourself the space to go inwards and revise your approach to this area of life if necessary.
